How to Get There

FROM MANILA
Northern Samar is accessible by air and land travel. No passenger ships ply from Manila to the province.

By Air: Three airline companies service the province. Zest Air, Cebu Pacific, and PAL Express fly from Manila to Catarman, the capital of Northern Samar. Flights are usually in the morning. Travel time is approximately 1 hour.

You may call the following numbers to inquire about the cost of fare and schedule of flights, or you may click the name of the airline and you will be directed to its website.
Cebu Pacific – (63)(02)7020888
PAL Express – (63)(02)8558888
Zest Air – (63)(02)8553333

By Land:When traveling in a private vehicle from Manila, the country’s capital, Northern Samar may be reached via the Pan Philippine Highway. When you reach the port of Matnog in Sorsogon, you will have to disembark and take the “roll-on roll-off” (ro-ro) system, meaning, you will have to ride on a ferry boat (your vehicle will have to be in the ferry boat, too) which will cross San Bernardino Strait for almost two hours to the town of Allen which is located on the northwest part of the province.

From Allen, you will travel along the winding highway to Catarman.

If you decide to travel by public transportation, several bus companies have daily trips to the province. Most of these bus companies are located in the Cubao bus terminal in Quezon City, Metro Manila.

Upon reaching Matnog, passengers and buses will have to be ferried on a boat in order to reach the port of Allen. Travel time from Manila to Catarman by bus is 14 to 16 hours. It’s a long travel but don’t worry, you will surely enjoy the countryside scenes along the way.

FROM CEBU
A number of shipping lines have daily trips to Calbayog City in Western Samar. Travel is about 9 hours. From Calbayog, take a bus or a jeepney to Catarman. Travel time is 1 to 1.5 hours.
